A tool request is how an assistant asks Nerve to retrieve data or perform a supported action. You describe the task in plain language; the assistant finds the relevant tools and their inputs.

What happens during a request

The assistant may check connections, search for tools, inspect their input requirements, and execute one or more operations. You do not need to memorize tool names or write technical requests. In the inspected Claude connection, Nerve exposed Check Connections, Search Tools, Get Tool Schemas, Multi-Execute Tools, and a plan-status tool. The execution tool can handle a batch of operations. Its broad write/delete permission label does not by itself tell you whether the particular batch is a read or a change.

Review the requested operation

Before allowing a request, check:
  • Which platform and account it uses.
  • Whether it reads data, creates something, updates a setting, or deletes an object.
  • Which dates, budgets, statuses, recipients, or destinations are involved.
  • Whether the request matches what you asked the assistant to do.
Use a one-time permission when you want to inspect each request rather than granting ongoing tool permission. Available choices depend on your assistant.

Permission and approval are different

Allowing a tool gives the assistant permission to make that tool request. Business approval means you have reviewed the specific proposed change and its effect. A standing tool permission does not replace reviewing a new budget or campaign proposal.
For recurring workflows, inspect the saved steps and schedule as well as the assistant permissions. See Review and approve AI actions. If a tool request is unclear, ask the assistant to explain it before allowing it.
